From Gratitude to Growth: How ALEAP Recipients Are Building Their Digital Futures

Published on: April 18, 2025
"Good evening sir, I sincerely appreciate you Mr George Blache. Thanks for making the impossible possible, thanks for spreading love and kindness. Thanks for blessing my son (Ebinowen Omotola Johnson) with this beautiful laptop, may God almighty replenish you, may God answer all your silent prayers and give you long life to enjoy your labour of love. We are so grateful."
— Parent of Ebinowen Omotola Johnson
When we read messages like this one from a grateful parent, we're reminded of the profound impact technology access can have—not just on an individual student, but on entire families who see their children's horizons suddenly expand.
The Birth of Possibility
In 2023, we posed a question that would shape our mission: What if every child had access to their own laptop? Not a shared resource, not a borrowed tool, but their very own gateway to the digital world.
This question led to the creation of ALEAP—A Laptop for Every African Person—a program that began modestly but with enormous heart.

Small Beginnings, Profound Impact
Our journey started with just 10 students from FUTA Staff Secondary School in Akure, Nigeria. Ten young minds eager to join the digital conversation but lacking the essential tool to participate.
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to own a laptop. Your kind gesture won't be in vain."
— Toluwalase Olaoye
For Toluwalase and others like him, receiving a laptop wasn't just about owning a device—it was about being recognized, being included, being empowered. It was about finally having the means to translate ambition into achievement.
Listening and Learning
What made the initial 2024 program successful wasn't just what we gave—it was what we received in return. School principals showed up to support their students. Parents sent heartfelt thank-you notes. And every recipient taught us that technology access is fundamentally about equity and opportunity.
We took these lessons to heart. We refined our approach. And we prepared to grow.
From Vision to Blueprint
The success of our pilot program in 2024 became the foundation for 2025's expansion:
- We grew from serving 1 school to reaching 6
- We increased our impact from 20 students to 40
- We implemented a structured essay competition to ensure laptops went to those with both need and vision
- We prioritized girls in STEM, particularly in regions where they face additional barriers
- We welcomed education officials and media partners to help amplify our message and mission
Partnership with Purpose
This growth wouldn't have been possible without Tenable, whose sponsorship transcended financial support to become a true partnership in purpose.
"By supporting this cause, we aim to bridge the tech divide in underrepresented communities."
— Muta Mashack, Director of Engagement & Inclusion, Tenable
Their commitment has enabled us not just to provide more laptops but to enhance the program with additional resources, mentorship opportunities, and a vision for sustainable impact.
Looking Forward: The ALEAP Legacy
As we move forward, our focus extends beyond distribution to cultivation—ensuring that each laptop becomes a catalyst for ongoing growth and opportunity. Our plans include:
- Expanding our mentorship model to provide guidance and support beyond the initial laptop provision
- Bringing ALEAP to more regions, with special attention to rural areas with limited digital access
- Building a robust alumni network where past recipients can connect, collaborate, and contribute to the next generation
Every Device, A New Beginning
The true measure of ALEAP's success isn't in numbers—it's in narratives. It's in students who discover coding and create their first application. It's in young women who find their voice in tech forums they once couldn't access. It's in families who watch with pride as their children build skills that will transform their futures.
Every laptop we provide isn't just a device—it's a declaration that every young African deserves the tools to participate in the digital economy, to contribute their unique perspectives, and to shape the technological landscape of tomorrow.
As we continue to grow the ALEAP program, we remain committed to our core belief: that when you touch a life with technology, you don't just change their present—you help them build a future limited only by their imagination and determination.
